Dr. Matson may be offering MonaLisa Touch Laser Therapy in the near future.
The MonaLisa Touch is a fast, painless, hormone-free laser treatment to treat vaginal dryness, itching, painful intercourse, and other symptoms that are often associated with menopause. Since a woman has less estrogen during this stage of her life, the vaginal walls become thinner, drier, and more irritated. This is called “Vaginal Atrophy” and affects the quality of life of many women.
Traditionally, treatments have involved hormones, which many women cannot take or prefer not to take, or vaginal creams, which can be inconvenient and messy. MonaLisa Touch currently has a 92% “Worth It” rating on www.realself.com, highlighting its effectiveness. Many women who have not yet undergone menopause have these symptoms also, including:
- Women who have had hysterectomy and/or removal of the ovaries
- Women who have had chemotherapy to treat cancer
- Women approaching menopause
- Breastfeeding mothers
We have found in particular that women affected by certain female cancers, such as cancer of the breast, ovary, or uterus, can benefit greatly from the MonaLisa Touch. Such patients are not candidates for hormonal therapies and the MonaLisa Touch is a wonderful alternative that some find to be even more efficacious and convenient even than hormones.
The MonaLisa Touch is a laser treatment that targets by sending controlled energy to the the affected tissue in and/or outside of the vagina. The laser energy initiates the stimulation of collagen, an important building block for healthy, functional vaginal tissue. This treatment is typically painless and takes approximately 5 minutes right here in the office. Recommended treatment protocol is 3 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. No numbing, anesthesia, or pain medication is required and there are no documented side effects. Some women report improvement after just 1 treatment. Since there is no downtime, women should be able to return to their normal activities immediately, but should refrain from having sex 7 days following treatment. After treatment is completed, women should visit their doctor annually for a maintenance treatment.
